playroom-package-in-solid-beech
Playroom Package in Solid Beech

A whole room in one delivery, sized for a playroom or the play end of a living room, set up so a child can get everything out and put it away without help. Every piece is on the same height ladder, so what you buy in three years still lines up with what you buy today.

Children's furniture has a short life and an expensive one, and most of that is avoidable. The pieces here are drawn to a single height ladder so a table, a chair and a shelf bought two years apart still work together, and most of them adjust or convert rather than being replaced. Where a piece genuinely cannot grow, we say so on this page rather than in the returns policy, and we tell you what it becomes instead, which is usually a piece of furniture for a younger sibling or a resale that holds most of its value.

Specification

Dimensions: see the contents list, every piece drawn to the same height ladder

Age range: 1 to 7 years

Material: solid steamed beech, which is the timber most school furniture has been made from for a century because it dents rather than splinters

Finish: one finish batch across every piece in the package

Load rating: as the individual pieces, all tested to the standards below

Standards: BS EN 12520 and BS EN 12521 for domestic furniture, finish to BS EN 71 part 3, and the tip test in BS 4875

Edges and fixings: every exposed edge rounded to a 3mm radius, every fixing recessed and capped, and no pinch point anywhere a hand goes

Assembly: flat packed, about 3 hours in total for the package

Weight: approximately 118.6 kilograms in total

Contents: one climbing arch and ramp, one pikler style triangle, two low shelves with tray storage, one low table and two chairs, one book display shelf

Saving against buying the pieces separately: about 12 per cent

Batch record kept for ten years so a matching piece can be added later

Anti tip restraints supplied for every tall piece, and they are not optional

One delivery slot, two person delivery to the room, packaging taken away

Mattress is not included and is listed separately

In the box

One climbing arch and ramp

One Pikler style triangle

Two low shelves with tray storage

One low table and two chairs

One book display shelf

Anti tip restraints for every tall piece

Felt pads and corner caps with spares

One hex key and one spanner for the whole package

A room plan with the walkways drawn in

A printed safety card with the numbers that matter

Assembly and safety

Flat packed with a hex key and printed instructions. An anti tip restraint is in the box and it is not optional on this piece. Furniture tip overs injure a serious number of small children every year in this country and every one of them is preventable with two screws. If you cannot drill the wall, tell us and we will send the freestanding ballast kit instead at no charge.

How long it lasts

Most families buy this for one stage and then move on, and that is fine. It holds its value better than almost anything else in a child's room because it is solid timber with no printed decoration to date it, and we run a buy back on our own pieces at up to 40 per cent, refinish them and sell them as second life stock, which is the honest version of a sustainability page.
