Most children's furniture is built for the photograph, not the child. It looks right in a nursery for eighteen months, then it is too small, or it was never the right height in the first place, and it goes to the tip.
Kidsize exists to make that not happen.
The idea
Every piece we make is sized to a child rather than scaled down from an adult. A shelf they can see into. A rail at their shoulder. A bed they can climb out of at two in the morning without calling for you. A chair where their feet reach the floor, which is the single thing that decides whether a child can sit and concentrate.
It has to last three sizes, not one
A floor bed becomes a raised bed. A learning tower becomes a table. A cot bed becomes a single. A desk rises with them from four to eleven. Where a piece genuinely cannot grow, we sell a conversion kit rather than a replacement, and we take the old one back.
We also record the timber batch against your order. If you come back in two years for a second chest, it will match the first one. That sounds like a small thing until you have tried to match oak across two years and two suppliers.
What we make it from
Solid oak, beech, birch, ash and pine, and birch plywood with the laminations left visible. Finished in natural hardwax oil, or sprayed in a water based lacquer tested to EN 71-3 for safety of toys. No MDF, no foil wrap, no printed woodgrain.
Safety is a specification, not a sticker
Raised beds are built to BS EN 747, which sets guard rail heights, gap sizes, ladder spacing and load testing. Tables and chairs follow BS EN 1729, the size marks schools buy to. Anti tip restraints are in the box, not an upsell, and where a piece must be fixed to a wall we say so on the product page rather than on page four of the instructions.
