Frequently Asked Questions

Sizing

How do I know what size my child needs? Measure their height, not their age. The table on our Sizing Guide maps height to seat and table height using BS EN 1729.

Will a floor bed work for a baby? From around ten months, once they can get in and out on their own. Before that, most families still want a cot.

My ceiling is low. Can I still have a house frame bed? Our standard frames are 145cm tall and want 210cm of ceiling. Below that, look at the house frame floor beds, or ask about made to measure.

Safety

Are bunk beds safe? Ours are built to BS EN 747, which sets guard rail heights, gap sizes and load testing. The standard advises upper bunks are not suitable under six years, and we repeat that on every listing.

Do I have to fix things to the wall? Some pieces yes, some no, and we say which on every product page. Anti tip restraints are supplied in the box. See Safety and Standards.

Is the paint safe if my child chews it? Yes. Water based lacquer tested to EN 71-3. They will chew it.

Buying

What is a room package? A whole room specified as one order, matched from the same timber batch and delivered together. It works out cheaper than the pieces bought separately.

What does batch matched mean? We record the timber batch against your order, so if you come back in two years for a second chest it will match the first. Oak in particular is very hard to match after the fact.

Do you do made to measure? Yes, for alcoves, low ceilings, under stairs and non standard mattresses. Six to ten weeks. Not returnable on a change of mind, so we confirm everything in writing first.

Delivery and assembly

Is delivery really free? Yes, on everything, to any UK mainland address. Highlands and islands too, just slower.

Do you assemble it? Not as standard. Everything is flat packed with numbered parts and picture instructions. A bed is about an hour with two people. We can quote for assembly on room packages.

How long will it take? Stocked accessories 2 to 4 days. Most furniture is made to order, 3 to 6 weeks, stated on each page.

After you own it

A part is missing or broken. Email the part number from the instructions. We post a replacement free, for as long as we make the piece.

Can I return a bed I have assembled? Yes, within 60 days. Assembling it and living with it is exactly what the 60 days is for.

What happens when they outgrow it? Check whether a conversion kit solves it first, because it usually does and it is much cheaper. Otherwise see Trade In.

There are gaps appearing in the timber. Solid wood moves with humidity. Small seasonal gaps are normal and usually close again. A split through a structural part is not, and is covered.
